A Creative Haven
We are proud to open our doors to all creatives minds from around the globe to stay with us and participate in 3 to 4 day artist residencies that we offer throughout the year. Since our studio opened in 2017, we had an idea to design a create space, where people could simply disconnect, relax, and create. To press pause a bit from our day-today lives and play for bit. Get your hands dirty while getting to know our beautiful Pueblo Magico in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.
Our residencies delve into the printmaking process, using a Vandercook No. 01 Proof Press letterpress from the 1950’s. This beautiful press allows for us to print different mediums and gives us versatility in experimenting with many printing methods. Primarily, we focus in combining linoleum printing with letterpress wood and metal type. We have a moderate collection of wood and metal type. We’ve also rescued many antiquated photo blocks, metallic stamps, and engravings for around the world for use in the studio.
Our residencies host groups of up to seven people. This allows for our guests to feel comfortable during their stay, in the five rooms that we offer. Our studio is located inside our home, making it convenient for people to feel free and use the studio space at any given time during their stay. Accommodations
Located in the heart of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Sans Souci Press is located inside a colonial home that has been completely remodeled to accommodate for up to 7 guests per each artist residencies. We offer 5 rooms for our guests to stay comfortably, while finding accessibility to our press and studio at all times.
Workshops
Our printmaking workshops/residencies focus on the use of linoleum for linocut printing, as well as the use of wood and metal type to combine mediums, or create letterpress prints. As a group, we encourage everyone to come up with an idea for a group project during their stay, that can consist of a book of all our final prints baed on a certain theme. Guests are also able to work independently on what they’d like using all our resources at our studio.
Costs
Costs per group depends on the size of the group. The costs include room and board, access to the a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and in the morning, we provide coffee and tea. Material costs are also included. Materials include linoleum, carving tools, inks, and paper. Guests are welcome to bring their own tools and/or paper if they choose to do so. Food and libations are not covered. As a group, we tend to all go explore the town of Pátzcuaro and sit down for meals together at the many restaurants available for some amazing regional cuisines.
